Swimmer Spotlight: Aleksandr Popov
Former Russian swimmer, Aleksandr Popov, was widely considered as the greatest sprint swimmer in history. Aleksandr won gold medals for the men's 50M and 100M Freestyle at both the 1992 and 1996 Summer Olympics, and was the only man in history to defend both titles!
He held the world record for the fastest 50M Freestyle for 8 years, and the fastest 100M Freestyle for 6!
His total medal haul includes four Olympic gold and Five silver medals, six gold, four silver, and one bronze World Championship medals, and an impressive 21 gold, three silver, and two bronze medals from the European Championships.
